A small collection of photographs from various inland waterways which are part of the network of canals in England featuring traditional narrow boats. Thes boats were used to transport goods around the country, at first towed by heavy horses and later powered by diesel engines. these days , following the advent of rail and road transport, the original boasts are mainly used for leisure activities and for floating homes. I live in the City of Salford. The Worsley area of the city was the birthplace of the national canal system where the Duke of Bridgewater commissioned the first canal to carry coal from his mines at Worsley into Manchester and beyond to save on the high costs of transport by pack horse.
