[The Accidental Photographer] Ray Worsnop, Rays interest in photography was purely accidental. Having broken his leg in 2007, he found himself confined to a wheelchair for three months. Even worse, he was almost completely house bound. Fortunately, Ray lives in an apartment over looking the Irish Sea and the golden sands of Rhyl, which is situated on the beautiful North Wales Coast. Bored and house bound, Ray spent hours at his window, watching the changing tides, the illuminating light of morning the darkening clouds of evening, the dramatic sunsets, the changing weather conditions and the clouds of sand drifting along the beach whipped up by prevailing winds. Moment by moment the scene was changing before him. Ray had only used his camera for those family photos, smiley faces and happy birthdays, the dogs and the kids, you know what I mean! Suddenly he was inspired to photograph these natural events and found the results both stunning and surprising. He works as a volunteer adviser for the “Citizens advice bureau”, two days a week. His friends were amazed by his pictures and suggested he try and sell some and donate part to the charity. This gave Ray the confidence to apply to show his work at the local art gallery. His exhibition was a total success and aroused a great deal of interest and to a much wider audience. Now Ray sells his images worldwide and still donates a percentage to his favourite Charity the CAB. Rays camera is the talk of the town! Ray only uses one camera to take his landscape photographs and what is truly amazing is the fact it’s not even a professional camera. No fancy lenses, diffusers or lighting just one man and a Sony point and shoot 8 megapixel digital camera, just like the one that you have sitting at home. Rays believes anything more advanced just has too many buttons!
